Winters In A Coastal Town...(Article)

Often studied in geography, a coastal town experiences a moderate climate. That is mild winters and mild summers. Is it really so? I wish to share my experience of winters in my city, Mumbai!

Mumbai, as many say, The Maximum city of India is located on the coast of Arabian Sea. Having lived here for six years, I have a good idea about the weather of Mumbai. And as the winters usually draw in, nobody really cares about the woollens here as it is barely freezing in here. I guess not so any more…

Call it Climate Change or the ill-effects of Global Warming, the supposedly mild winters today are more on the extreme side! Its chilling here with people covering themselves with thick sweaters, jackets and what not…

Let’s leave the environment aside… It’s better to talk about “the winter thrill”!
Its fun lying on the bed wrapped up in a blanket. Coffee tastes extra better these days. The evening walk sets my blood freezing. The winter aroma is pleasant. The morning ride to college makes me shiver like never before and sets my brain wondering whether it will snow? Well of course it will never snow but what’s bad in thinking about it?

Friends get a new topic to talk about and the winter experience is good enough for lengthy conversations! Rubbing your palms, tightly folding your hands, all this happens unknowingly. A chilled coke in such a weather sets your forehead aching!
The freezing midnight bike ride, jumping in the swimming pool in a cold night are definitely a big NO from parent’s viewpoint but is an experience worth remembering…

There is something about winters that no other weather has and there is something about other weathers that winters don’t have… Yet living every moment of winters is something that only few can really enjoy and those who do are certainly the luckiest around…!
